Is the procedure painful?
Most patients experience only mild swelling and sensitivity after the procedure. Pain is usually well controlled with light painkillers.

Neck width reduction is a refined aesthetic treatment designed to make the neck appear slimmer in the frontal view. The result is a naturally elegant neckline that is better balanced with the jaw and face. This treatment is often combined with a weekend lift, allowing simultaneous improvement of both the neck and jawline.

This procedure is ideal for individuals whose neck appears wide due to a strong or visibly present neck muscle, rather than due to fat or skin excess. It is often chosen by patients seeking a slimmer, more elegant neck contour without an obvious “operated look.” Good skin quality and stable weight are important factors.
The procedure is suitable for patients whose neck appears visually broad due to an anatomically prominent neck muscle, without significant fat accumulation. It is ideal for individuals with good skin quality who desire an elegant, slimmer neckline with a natural, non-overcorrected result.
This procedure is intended for patients with pronounced lateral neck projection or muscular convexity along the SCM trajectory, without marked submental fat accumulation. Both men and women with stable weight, good skin quality, and a wish to harmonize the cervicomandibular angle are suitable candidates. Functional integrity and symmetry are strictly preserved.
The treatment focuses on selective, partial reduction of the SCM muscle while preserving neurovascular structures. Through targeted muscular contouring, the frontal width of the neck is reduced without interfering with head rotation or flexion movements. This technique can be seamlessly combined with a minimally invasive weekend lift for simultaneous cutaneous and platysmal tightening.
The sternocleidomastoid muscle is a superficial cervical muscle originating from the sternum and clavicle and attaching to the mastoid process. The muscle facilitates flexion, rotation, and lateral flexion of the head. When hypertrophied, it results in a broad, powerful neck appearance in frontal view. Reducing muscle volume refines the contour without impacting functional biomechanics.

This treatment is suitable for individuals who experience a broad or tense neck contour in the frontal view, often due to a strongly developed or anatomically prominent neck muscle. Patients seeking a refined, elegant neck line without overcorrection or volume loss along the jawline will find this a subtle yet powerful solution. Neck width reduction is commonly chosen by both men and women with an eye for natural proportions.
Recovery varies depending on the techniques used and the patient’s individual response. Typical aspects of the recovery process include:
Immediately after surgery: A facial dressing is applied to minimize swelling and support healing. You will be monitored briefly in recovery before going home.
Swelling and bruising: These are normal during the first two weeks and gradually subside.
Pain and discomfort: Some discomfort is expected. Dr. O. Beckers will prescribe pain medication if necessary.
Dressings and sutures: The dressing is usually removed after the first night. A soft facial band may be applied temporarily. Sutures are removed in stages: the netting after 3 days, front-of-ear stitches after 1 week, and those behind the ear and under the chin after 2 weeks.
Limited activity: During the first weeks, it is important to avoid physical exertion to not disrupt healing. Avoid bending or lifting.
Scars: Scars usually heal well and become barely noticeable over time. Scar care is discussed individually with Dr. O. Beckers.
Follow all postoperative instructions carefully to ensure optimal recovery and minimize risks. If you have questions or concerns, be sure to reach out in time.
The costs for the various treatments depend on the duration of the operation and the complexity of the procedure. During a personal consultation with Dr. Olivier Beckers will provide you with a detailed explanation about the price of the specific treatment that is relevant to you. It is important to note that this treatment is not eligible for reimbursement by the RIZIV.
